about

I’ve wanted to run a blog since turning 18. I remember buying a domain, designing the website, and dreaming about all the things I’d write. But whenever it finally came time to write, I’d find myself completely stumped. The idea of revealing my innermost thoughts and feelings terrified me. Eight years and many abandoned drafts later, I’ve barely scraped together the courage to start.

“Marginalia” refers to the notes and annotations written between the margins of a book or document. It’s a word that I discovered through the music of my favorite pianist/composer Takagi Masakatsu. In these songs, he improvises and records without preparation. Similarly, I want to use this blog to dwell on my transient thoughts and shape them into something that I can look back on.

I love listening to music, reading literature, and watching films. I’m able to see the world through another’s eyes and feel what they feel, and I come away from each experience a slightly new person—ideally, someone a little less judgmental and a little more understanding. While I still feel self-conscious about sharing my personal thoughts and opinions, I’ve always deeply admired people who aren’t afraid to express themselves.

So if anything, I’m doing this for the younger me who always dreamed of writing someday. I don’t expect anyone to spend their precious time reading the things I write—but if you’re reading this now or have read anything that I’ve written before, I hope that it was worth your time, and that you were able to take something away from it.
